The Age Melbourne Writers Festival (Aug. 20 - 29, 2004)
A showcase of talented writers getting together to discuss everything, from their latest best-sellers, to the goings on in Iraq guarantee another entertaining Writers Festival in Melbourne this August. Most events do charge admission, however they are all well worth it. Special guests include best selling authors Mark Billingham, Michael Connelly and Australians John Marsden and Margaret Clark. The Brisbane Writers Festival (Sep. 30 - Oct. 3, 2004)
The theme for this year’s Festival in Brisbane is one of re-birth and re-imagination. After all, what is it that we writers do? We take core stories, and rework them, all in our individual ways. With most of the events held being free of charge, this indie-feel festival is sure to be a hit, just like it was last year, and the year before that, and the year before that... The National Young Writer’s Festival (Oct. 5 - 9, 2004)
Anyone who considers themselves a zine maker, comic artist, playwright, novelist, short story writer or just plain writer is welcome to attend this festival. Heck, if you’re in Newcastle at this time of year drop by, and join the masses. Everybody is a writer at heart. This festival is one not to be missed. The Sydney Writers’ Festival (May 16 - 22, 2005)
You may have missed this year's festival, but don’t lose faith. Next years is already being planned. With guests this year like the 2003 Man Booker Prize winner DBC Pierre, philosopher turned author turned television show host (Status Anxiety), In The Cut author Susanna Moore and funny men Alexei Sayle and David Sedaris, why wouldn’t you want to come next year?
